Rotary Tables and Carousels

Maximum Flexibility for Rapidly Rotating Components

Adaptive and Simplified Design Enabled by Efficient Wireless Connectivity

Easily add connectivity to rapidly rotating devices on rotary tables and carousels, with an industrial-grade wireless, real-time communication solution. With no need for unnecessary cables or slip rings, you can add sensors (e.g. load cell, volumetric sensor) and actuators (e.g. valve, servo motor, gripper) on dynamically rotating machine components such as rotary tables and carousels. Products are processed in the most flexible manner while in constant motion, without manual changeovers, while reducing maintenance and deployment efforts.

Pedrini Case Study: Enhancing Stone Processing Efficiency

Wireless Technology Boosts Flexibility and Efficiency

Pedrini, a leader in natural stone processing machines, partnered with CoreTigo to integrate IO-Link Wireless devices, enhancing existing machines without redesign. This upgrade brought Pedrini’s SPECTRA B220 machine, used for thickness grinding of stone slabs, into the Industry 4.0 era.

By replacing traditional communication cables with CoreTigo’s IO-Link Wireless solution, Pedrini reduced deployment complexity. An IO-Link Wireless Bridge (TigoBridge) connected to a multiport I/O Hub collects data from multiple spindles, and a single IO-Link Wireless Master (TigoMaster) relays this data to the PLC. This setup allows real-time machine calibration and optimization displayed on the HMI.

The wireless solution reduced slip ring complexity, cutting costs and deployment time. It increased flexibility, allowing easy retrofitting and system expansion without cabling constraints. Maintenance improved with fewer spare parts needed for slip rings and reduced cable wear. The system’s reliability, far surpassing conventional wireless systems, ensures high performance even in harsh industrial environments.

By adopting CoreTigo’s wireless technology, Pedrini significantly enhanced the efficiency and flexibility of the SPECTRA B220 machine, transforming their natural stone processing capabilities.

Siboni Case Study: Wireless Servo Motors for Bottle Labeling

IO-Link Wireless Reduces Complexity and Maintenance

Efficient manufacturing requires on-the-move control and automation. Motors solutions provider, Siboni, integrated CoreTigo’s IO-Link Wireless to simplify the design of servo motors for automated bottle rotation in packaging machines.

The solution includes wirelessly controlled electric servo motors on rotary tables and carousels with embedded TigoAir 2 SOM. The wireless servo motors communicate with the PLC over the air via the IO-Link Wireless Master for rotating the bottle labels to the proper orientation.

The solution enables minimal cable connectivity and maximum flexibility, as only a single power cable is needed to run through the center axis or slip ring of the rotating equipment. Communication to the dozens of servo motors is done wirelessly enabling a reduction in deployment time, maintenance and payload.

How Does it Work

Simple and Flexible

CoreTigo’s solution provides real-time wireless connectivity for multiple sensors and actuators on rotary tables and carousels while in constant motion.

Sensors and Actuators on-board the rotating equipment are connected wirelessly with one of the following:

  • TigoBridge – Connects directly and seamlessly with no integration efforts to a sensor or actuator, turning them into an IO-Link Wireless device.
  • TigoHub – Multiple sensors and actuators can be connected to CoreTigo’s TigoHub. Converts between 4 to 6 digital, analog, or IO-Link devices to IO-Link Wireless in parallel.
  • Embedded Modules – Enable an integrated IO-Link Wireless device design without the need for external adapters.

The TigoMaster, IO-Link Wireless Master, communicates the device data and control in real-time to and from the automation PLC. The Master supports a variety of Industrial Ethernet protocols (such as Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, Profinet or OPC-UA) and can send monitoring data to an IIoT platform or any other application. The Master enables complete flexibility and ease of deployment as there are no communication cables required between the Master and the rotating devices on the carousels and rotary tables.

With this solution, products can be processed while in constant motion in an agile and flexible manner. Changeover and tooling setup time is minimized, enabling a single machine to handle a broad range of product types and reducing the cost and time to market of applying new types and designs. Machine footprint and maintenance overhead are reduced due to the reduction of cables, chains, belts and mechanical components. Device connectivity practically anywhere also enables condition-monitoring capabilities and predictive maintenance.
